Service for the departed in Blantyre, Malawi

ConcertChief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider visited Blantyre, Malawi, on 3 November 2016 for the first time, ahead of the 6 November 2016 service for the departed.

The Chief Apostle and his entourage arrived at Chileka International Airport at about 18:10 hours local time and were welcomed by members including the Luyando Sisters.

Founded in 1876, Blantyre is Malawi’s center of finance and commerce. It is sometimes referred to as the commercial capital of Malawi as opposed to the political capital, Lilongwe.

Saturday, 5 November 2016 was a busy day for the Chief Apostle as he chaired a meeting with active Apostles and Bishops of Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe at Protea Reyalls hotel to which the region’s retired Apostles were invited.

After the meeting, Chief Apostle Schneider was guest of honor at a musical concert presented by the choir and orchestra at Blantyre’s Robins Park.

DAH MiselloSunday, 6 November 2016 was the climax of the Chief Apostle’s visit when he conducted the service for the departed at Chirimba congregation in Blantyre, which was followed by well over 9, 000 congregations via radio and television in Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe.

During the service, District Elder Jacob Mwansa was ordained Apostle for Zambia’s Ndola-Mufulira Apostle Area. He succeeds Apostle Aaron Katungu who was called home on 6th September 2015. 

Born on 6 July 1957 in Mufulira, Copperbelt region of Zambia, Apostle Mwansa is the 6th born in a family of 5 males 3 females.


Apostle Mwansa ordinationApostle Mwansa went to Muleya Winter School in Mufulira for his primary education in 1966 at the age of 9 years and later went to Kantanshi Secondary School in 1973 for his secondary education.


A mining technician by profession, Apostle Mwansa was trained at Zambia Institute of Technology (now Copperbelt University) and successfully completed in September 1983. Earlier he had studied Electronics at the same Institution.


Married to Florence Chilonga, the Apostle has six children, four girls and two boys, he also has one granddaughter.
