On Tuesday, 23 February, 2010, the District Apostle Charles Ndandula travelled to Karonga, a town located in the northern part of Malawi. The town experienced an earthquake in the evening of 6 December 2009 that claimed some lives. The District Apostle travelled there to comfort and donate items to the earthquake victims.

Karonga town has a total population of 270,150 people. 35,000 households were affected by the tremor, of which 6,000 families were displaced. 1,591 houses, completely collapsed. 17 churches and 17 schools also collapsed and five deaths were recorded in the disaster.

The roads were also not spared as there were fissures crossing the main road and other roads.

The District Apostle made a donation worth €150,000 Euros (MK31,950,000 Malawian  Kwacha) on behalf of Henwood Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization for the church based in Zambia. This donation is funded by NAK-Karitativ, a Germany based NGO for the New Apostolic Church.

The District Apostle was accompanied by all the apostles and two bishops of Malawi as he visited two of our church buildings that collapsed, three affected families and the fissures along Chitipa road which is the main road.  After this, he then made a donation of hygiene kits, mosquito nets, tents, foodstuffs and computers to the office of the District Commissioner.

After the donations at the District Commissioner's office the District Apostle then proceeded to Karonga district hospital where he donated a laptop, a desktop computer, a printer, a digital camera and 15 cases of emergency health kits.

He then visited the Ngerenge camp where the displaced families were relocated and handed over a clinic which was renovated by the Henwood Foundation at the camp.

Families of the church members that were visited were so overwhelmed, when they saw the District Apostle, that one elderly member wept and rolled on the ground. She thanked the District Apostle for his comforting words and the donation of the hygiene kit, tent, mosquito net and foodstuffs which she received.

The following day, the District Apostle conducted a service in Karonga in a school hall as our church buildings there were damaged by the earthquake.

The comforting word read to the 1, 486 members was taken from Romans 15:5- 6:

“Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be likeminded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus; that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
