|
In a ceremony marked by several performances, members of Lusaka's Libala congregation on Saturday 14 August 2010, celebrated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of their congregation. District Elder Maurice Chinga presented the chronicle of Libala church and explained that out of this congregation, many other congregations were born, some of which are Chawama, Burma, Chongwe, Nampundwe, and Ngwenya. The celebration was also graced by the District Apostle Charles Ndandula. His predecessor District Apostle Duncan B. Mfune was among many other leaders that attended the celebrations. The following day, Sunday 15 August 2010, the District Apostle Charles Ndandula conducted a divine service in Libala church. He read a text word from John 10:14: “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.” During the service, District Elder Samuel Nyirenda and District Evangelist Aaron Siambala were placed into retirement and 2 Shepherds, Charles Saimba of Luangwa and Charles Simuzingili of Chirundu were ordained into the District Evangelist ministry. 931 members attended the service. The congregation was established in the early 1950’s at Timothy Mwanakatwe primary school in Chilenje Township, which was the first meeting place for the congregants before a piece land was secured for the construction of a church. Construction proceeded at breakneck speed and building was completed in just three months! It was dedicated in 1970 by then Apostle Andrew Fernandes.
